Important safety recall announcement regarding Automotive front suspension struts with part no. POS 5N20 and POS 5N21
Öhlins has identified a potential safety issue affecting specific aftermarket Öhlins front suspension struts, Part No. POS 5N20, intended for installation on certain Porsche vehicles. In line with our commitment to quality and safety, Öhlins is initiating a recall to address the issue.
The affected struts are aftermarket parts sold for installation by or on behalf of owners of pre-registered vehicles. They were shipped to customers as part of suspension kits. Each kit contained two of the affected front struts, along with two rear struts, springs, and associated hardware (these other components are not affected by this recall).
The affected suspension kits are identified below:
POZ MN02
- Porsche 996 Carrera 4 / Carrera 4S (1999-2005)
- Porsche 996 Turbo / Turbo S (2001-2006)
POZ MN05
- Porsche 997 Carrera 4 / Carrera 4S (2005-2012)
- Porsche 997 Turbo / Turbo S (2006-2013)
Due to a design compatibility issue related to the interface between the vehicle’s top mount and the strut, the pin of the strut may experience excessive stress during maximum steering, which can lead to fatigue and, potentially, breakage of the pin. If the pin fails, it will result in the separation of the strut from the vehicle and compromise front wheel control, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Öhlins has suspended supplies of the affected kits and is working with its distributors to contact affected end users.
If you own one of the recalled struts, please contact the place of purchase to arrange to receive a new strut (Part No. POS 5N20 or POS 5N21), along with a new top mount interface solution that will address the compatibility issue, free of charge. The new, replacement front struts will be uniquely and permanently marked to distinguish them from the recalled parts.
Öhlins apologizes for the inconvenience caused to our customers.
