At the beginning of season we reported about the Skoda Octavia Cup returning after a 4 year break. It is one of the most important brand related races in European motorsport and the first race weekends with the Öhlins equipped carshave been successful completed.
The engine in the Skoda Octavia Cup is a 2.0 ltr. TFSI in-line four cylinder turbo with 280 BHP. As the engine the DSG with shift paddles at the steering wheel are made by the Volkwagen group. The ready-to-race weight is 1.180 kilo, Pirelli supplies the 18 inch tires and the suspension is based on the Road & Track coil overs from Öhlins. The cars are build by the Öhlins service center Benet Automotive s.r.o. located about 40 km from Prag, Czech Republic.
The cup consists of five races in four different countries which are: the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the Hungaroring in Hungary, the Autodrom Most in Czech Republic, the Slovakia Ring in Slovakia and Brünn, again in Czech Republic.
Most of the starters are from Czech Republic. The only German team is Steibel Motorsport from Walkertshofen near Augsburg starting with two cars in the cup and are at position 5 and 6 right now. Championship leader after three races is the Hungarian pilot Gabor Tim.
Each race weekend a prominent guest runs in the Skoda Octavia Cup's VIP car. At the last race in Most it was the only Formula 1 pilot from Czech Republic Thomas Enge. At the other weekends the car is raced by journalists, actors and musicians from Czech Republic.
