Last weekend the 45th round of the legendary 24h race on Nürburgring took place. We have been in the paddock from Thursday to keep fingers crossed for all the teams we support with our suspension. On our stand we displayed a Subaru WRX STI that Armin Schwarz usually uses for his rally driving instructions and that just came back in time from winter training in Finland.
We even had famous visitors at our stand. TV star Panagiota Petridou - well known from the German TV series 'Biete Rostlaube, suche Traumauto' - and Klaus Ludwig - one of Germany's most successful touring car drivers - made a visit to our stand.
The weeks before that race have been very busy for our workshop because quite many of the GT3 cars racing in class SP9 are equipped with Öhlins suspension by the manufacturer. But Öhlins is not only used in the top cars. Audi used the 24h race to test two R8 GT4 prototypes with Öhlins suspension and several of the brand new BMW M4 GT4 - homologated with Öhlins - have been competing in the 'Green Hell'.
In addition several private teams requested our support. One of them was Frikadelli Racing we supplied with tailor made suspension for their Porsches. Congratulations to the Frikadelli team around the team manager Klaus Abbelen. Finishing 6th and 17th Frikadelli achieved their best 24h result for many years and have been the most successful Porsche in the race ahead of the official factory teams. In addition these have been the first Porsche 911 GT3R racing the 24h with Öhlins suspension.
At the finish Öhlins equipped cars did not only fill the podium but held places 1 to 4 and in addition 9 out of the top 12 cars have been running on our suspension. 1: Audi Sport Team Land (Audi R8 LMS), 2: Rowe Racing (BMW M6 GT3), 3: Audi Sport Team WRT (Audi R8 LMS), 4: BMW Team Schnitzer (BMW M6 GT3)
Congratulations to Audi Sport Team Land and of course to Audi Sport for the victory in the 45th 24h race on Nürburgring.
In addition we say thank you to Armin Schwarz and Allrad Daewel for the cool Subaru as well as to Brömmler Motorsport for the GT-R which was an eyecatcher again.
